Kevin Bulmer, BR prop maker, died. He supplied several props for the upcoming fan-film "Bladder Run". Below is a note from the director of Bladder Run, Mark Hevingham.

"It is with very deepest sadness that I must report the death of one of the Bladder Run family. My friend, Dr. Kevin Bulmer was also a great supporter of the movie, and supplied several props and many photos and magazine covers to be used in background scenes. He was always cheerful and helpful - giving without asking or expecting anything in return. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year a the age of 47 and passed away on November 12th this year.

"I had obeyed his request not to phone for updates as he could no longer speak and sent emails, the last of which was picked up by his partner, Cate, early this morning. I can't begin to describe the sadness I feel at the loss of such a nice and talented person. He was a great bloke who deserved a long and healthy life, but I rejoice that I knew him for a while and that his suffering is now at an end."

MEMORIA ~ Blade Runner: The Rock Project Revisited

Every once in a while -- out of the blue -- a melody from this project would come to mind. And it was that little inspiration that moved me to revisit the archives.

I found that there were more beautiful songs in this collection that had not yet seen the light of day. They were heard only by a very select few. They lay at rest in envelopes, cases and hard-drives -- awaiting their turn in the studio to be doctored and mixed. There are those few songs that will have to wait for their resurrection. But, I did find that there were some that I felt could be heard and still appreciated now.

Blade Runner Blimp Project

Jason Eaton has been working on a scale model of the advertising blimp from the movie Blade Runner. According to what he wrote in his blog, work on it has been progressing nicely. He has the bodies built with armatures installed and is currently sanding and puttying the seams smooth. He's also been working closely with Lightbenders on an amazing light rig that will feature some killer electronic bells and whistles. And a custom searchlight is being created for the project – each blimp has four roving searchlights underneath controlled by motors!

Ridley Scott is returning to the futuristic world of "Blade Runner," his iconic 1982 film, for a new feature for Warners-based Alcon Entertainment.

Scoop: Leave my future, and 'Blade Runner,' alone.

Adapted from Philip K. Dick’s story "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?," Scott’s original film — with its mix of rainy, neon-lit exteriors, its human-like androids called replicants, and its shadowy, controlling corporation — established a template for dystopian views of the future. In 2007, it was named the second most visually influential film of all time by the Visual Effects Society.

While the new movie is being described as a "follow-up" to the first film, the filmmakers have not yet disclosed whether it will function as a prequel or a sequel to the original.

Alcon, the financing and production company behind movies like "The Blind Side" and "The Book of Eli," recently partnered with producer Bud Yorkin to produce new "Blade Runner" films as well as TV and interactive productions based on the property.

Alcon co-founders and co-CEOs Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove will produce the new film with Yorkin, Cynthia Sikes Yorkin and Scott. Frank Giustra and Tim Gamble, CEOs of Thunderbird Films, will serve as executive producers.

Scott, repped by WME and Ziffren Brittenham, is currently completing another sci-fi feature "Prometheus," which has connections to his 1979 movie "Alien," and which will be released by Fox on June 8, 2012.

‘Blade Runner’ Producer Says Not to Expect a New Film Before 2014; Harrison Ford Not Likely to Return

The biggest news of the day — and likely the week, perhaps even the month — is that Ridley Scott has agreed to direct a film that will be either a prequel or sequel to his 1982 classic Blade Runner. Details on the project are very thin right now; besides the simple fact of Alcon Entertainment holding the rights to make the film, and Scott agreeing to direct, there are no specifics.

Andrew Kosove from Alcon is, however, already talking about the many steps that have to be taken before a film will ever be released. Between needing to make big decisions about the overall story, hiring a writer and shaping the script, we shouldn’t expect the film to go into production before 2013. That means a 2014 release is the earliest we can expect the new Blade Runner. And what of original star Harrison Ford? Don’t expect to see him in the film, says Kosove.

The LA Times talked to Kosove, who described a meeting he and Alcon partner Broderick Johnson had with Ridley Scott, during which ” they hashed out how a new film would look, how it could avoid seeming too similar to the many movies that have since paid homage to the original, and how different the new film should be from the original itself.”

That meeting had a couple big results. One was a handshake agreement for Ridley Scott to produce and direct the new film. The other was that, whatever this new Blade Runner is, it will “stand as separately as possible” from the 1982 film. So the ‘not quite an Alien prequel’ status of Prometheus, the film Scott is finishing right now, certainly seems to be informing this project. (As Germain surmised.)

Now Scott has to meet with writers, choose one and wait for a first draft. So we’re looking at probably a minimum of 18 months to get the script and pre-production work done.

There is the question of possible participation from Harrison Ford, which Kosove addresses:

In no way do I speak for Ridley Scott. But if you’re asking me will this movie have anything to do with Harrison Ford, the answer is no. This is a total reinvention, and in my mind that means doing everything fresh, including casting.

I’m happy to hear that Ford isn’t likely to be involved, and there’s something about the phrase ‘total reinvention’ that I like in this context. At the same time, I have to admit that could mean anything right now. With no script, not even a screenwriter, it is very difficult to make any guesses. But hell, I liked the Prometheus footage. I’m more interested in that film than I ever expected to be interested in an Alien prequel, Ridley Scott or no.

The Blade Runner Games

The Westwood Studios’ Blade Runner game crops up in articles, or on the web, from time to time. The game was advertised as "the first real time adventure game". The story featured "Blade Runner" Ray McCoy searching for Replicants in Los Angeles in the year 2019. It's either nostalgically recalled, or it is compared with recently developed games.

But this wasn't the first proposed Blade Runner game. There was the rare prototype board game back in 1982-83, released to test markets in San Francisco and Los Angeles. This was a licensed product bearing the Blade Runner Partnership trademark.

Then, in 1985, there was the CRL Group PLC released computer game for Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum.

In 2008, however, there was yet another Blade Runner game under consideration. In a recent interview with Xbox Magazine, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford revealed that fellow Gearbox co-founder Brian Martell met with Alien and Blade Runner director Ridley Scott to discuss plans for the game.

The below text is from an article written by Matt Bradford at GamesRadar.

Being a Blade Runner fan is frustrating. Since its theatrical release in 1982, the cult sci-fi film has been used ad nauseum as a reference point to describe virtually any game that deals in dystopic futuristic subject matter, yet apart from Westwood Studios' point-and-click adventure game back in 1997, Deckard wannabes have not had an authentic Blade Runner title to speak of in ages. The kicker? Gearbox studios recently reminded The Official PlayStation Magazine it once owned the development rights for a Blade Runner IP, but ditched the opportunity out of fear the property wouldn't sell.

In his chat with OPM regarding Aliens: Colonial Marines, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford admitted the studio passed on the chance to collaborate with Ridley Scott on a Blade Runner video game, explaining, "That game would've cost like $40m to make and sold about 600,000 units - and that would have been the end of us...There's no rational business model that would have allowed that to make sense. If we'd made it with a business model that did work, it would not have been the Blade Runner game we all would have wanted."

This is the second time Pitchford has talked about Gearbox's flirtation with a Blade Runner game. In 2009, he told The Official Xbox Magazine it was a tempting proposition, but ultimately too much of a financial risk, noting, "You're going to spend 25 million, there's another 10-15 risk just in the publishing process, and then you got another 10-15 million marketing, and we didn't think that we could make that back. So that's too bad."

It is too bad – especially when games like Prey 2, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and Mass Effect 3 prove the Blade Runner spirit is alive and well but just bagging skinjobs under a slew of different names.

In the December 2010 issue of Edge Magazine, there is an article titled “The Making of Blade Runner”. In it, it describes how this game changed the rules of graphics and gameplay in video game technology. The website Dead End Thrills features some of its art in an article titled "The Lost Art Of Blade Runner".

A new life awaits you ...

Alcon Entertainment had acquired film, television and ancillary franchise rights to produce prequels and sequels to the iconic 1982 science-fiction thriller Blade Runner. This, of course, has created quite a stir amongst fans of the film.

Alcon’s franchise rights would be all-inclusive, but exclude rights to remake the original. The Company, however, may produce projects based on situations introduced in the original film. The project would be distributed domestically by Warner Bros. International rights are yet to be determined.

Alcon Entertainment has stated: “We are honored and excited to be in business with Bud Yorkin. This is a major acquisition for our company, and a personal favorite film for both of us. We recognize the responsibility we have to do justice to the memory of the original with any prequel or sequel we produce. We have long-term goals for the franchise, and are exploring multi-platform concepts, not just limiting ourselves to one medium only.”

This offers a unique and limitless opportunity to explore the many possibilities for collaborations -- officially and legally -- between Alcon Entertainment and the many artists that have been inspired by this film.

The intersection of stage and film — the future of entertainment?

In an article written by Chris Conrad of the Mail Tribune, he writes how the film-to-stage experiment intrigues him. He mentioned a few movies that critics already consider "stagey", and then threw in his own picks. Among his picks was "Blade Runner".

The columnist wrote, “My heart would swell and burst if some intrepid director could bring Blade Runner to the stage.” He’s certainly passionate about his conviction with wanting this "science-fiction stage show".

And, I must say–personally–I think it would be an awesome endeavour. If done cleverly, it could very well be the next best thing. Of course, there will be those against such an idea, just as there are those against a re-make, sequel or prequel. But, this would be different.

I was fortunate enough to be involved in a project that came close to the idea of bringing Blade Runner to the stage. I wrote lyrics to the splendidly crafted music of Marco Spatuzzi. And it was performed live, along side the movie Blade Runner, in a production titled Blade Runner: The Rock Project.

Looking at some of the movies or television programs that have been adapted to musicals on Broadway might give you an idea of the possible success such a venture could have. Just to name a few; Little Shop of Horrors, The Producers and The Addams Family.

Is it the future of entertainment? For live entertainment, it certainly can be.

All the stage is an Off-world

In the BR-Rock Project, we presented a new way of viewing the neo-noir film Blade Runner. The idea was to translate, in music and in words, the over-industrialized; multi-ethnic; dehumanized; polluted environment; depiction of a dystopian future, with focus on the storyline, and the character's relationships and feelings.

The movie was projected on a screen accompanied with original music composed by Marco Spatuzzi, and performed by his group Memoria. It was rock oriented, but didn't neglect the ambiance of the cyberpunk film setting. The songs paired with the scenes, savoring every key element in the film. The music enhanced the vision, whilst the lyrics, written by C.A. Chicoine, reinforced the story.

In all, twenty-five songs (of which eight are instrumentals) were written for this production, spanning the entire length of the actual film. With some modifications, the musical numbers could be easily adapted to a Broadway-style musical.

WHY BLADE RUNNER DOESN'T NEED A SEQUEL

Yes, it's that time again. Time to start talking Blade Runner 2. Time to resurrect the chatter that was already in full flow by the summer of 1983, when Ridley Scott's poorly-received but luminal Philip K. Dick adaptation simply wouldn't leave the late night circuit, and stayed on even when The Exorcist and The Rocky Horror Picture Show were starting to look tired to drunken students; that reached fever pitch in the early 1990s with the release of the controversial but much-favoured director's cut, first in cinemas and then as a big hit on VHS rental and keepers. That director Scott himself never let entirely die over the years, always citing rights issues with the estate of Philip K. Dick as the impediment to any real consideration of a sequel.

Now Book Of Eli production company Alcon is apparently securing the rightsto movie and TV prequels and sequels to the 1982 cult SF noir thriller with original producer Bud Yorkin, amongst others. Whatever you think of this, be thankful that the rights to actually remake Blade Runner itself are not on the table in this new deal.

Alcon's Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove released the statement: “We are honored and excited to be in business with Bud Yorkin. This is a major acquisition for our company, and a personal favorite film for both of us. We recognize the responsibility we have to do justice to the memory of the original with any prequel or sequel we produce. We have long-term goals for the franchise, and are exploring multi-platform concepts, not just limiting ourselves to one medium only”. Ironically, Blade Runner is one of the few SF movies to have spawned a pretty good game for its time, but that's not to discount the possibilities of a far more elaborate rendering of the world. But once you're talking about, er, dicking with the original by extending its story into new episodes, that's something else again.

It's perhaps ironic that a movie about cloning has had no sequel, even in this most sequel-obsessed of times, but I can't help but wonder what we have been saved from by the Terry Nation-style stubbornness of the PKD estate. Certainly CGI was not ready during most of the 1990s to handle the rich visual tapestry that Ridley Scott weaved in the 1982 original with VFX wizard Doug Trumbull. By the time The Fifth Element came out, with its own take on urban dystopia, the state of the art was perhaps getting there, but still not quite able to reproduce Trumbull's lavish and elaborate smoke-filled visuals.

Now, four years after Ridley Scott's most vehement promise to try and come up with a sequel, we are apparently getting near again to a return to the smog-filled neon dreamland of Hades 2019 (that's eight years to go, Ford - get to work!). The VFX-capability is there for new Blade Runner - but computers can't solve the bigger problems.

Perhaps, as with the previous abandoned Blade Runner sequel, K. W. Jeter's three 1990s sequel novels may furnish the essential element - a story that leads on from the last. But who could credibly play the same roles? Could anyone accept a recast at this stage? Of the actors in the original, two were playing 'older' - William Sanderson now looks almost exactly like the J. F. Sebastian of Blade Runner. And his death was off-screen...

Likewise James Hong is also now about the age that he was made up to play in 1982, and, like Sebastian, only had an implied demise. But the lean and moody version of Edward James Olmos is no more, whilst Daryl Hannah and Harrison Ford clearly have also lived more than five years since the original; and Sean isn't nearly as young as she once was. Oddly enough, the ever-buoyant Joanna Cassidy is probably nearest to credible in this respect - dead though her character most certainly is in Blade Runner - and even participated in reshoots for the 2008 Blu-ray release of the film (the long overdue amendment of the appalling stunt-double in Zhora's 'window-death' scene).

But all this is academic.

But do you really want to see a sequel to Blade Runner? Really? Is the entire film not an unrepeatable moment sliced from movie history, a dark fairy tale with a semi-unhappy ending (from the director's cut onwards) that really doesn't need any further retconning decades after the fact? What about a sequel toCasablanca? Because if 2001: A Space Odyssey is sci-fi cinema's Citizen Kane, then Blade Runner is its Casablanca. Isn't it enough that 'We'll always have Hades'..? Perhaps Tyrell himself explains better than anyone why a sequel is a bad idea...

I wouldn't necessarily be so averse to seeing a TV sidequel series; the large cast and brooding cast of Blade Runner and the cross-referencing of stories and character arcs is very much in tune with SF TV in the post-Galactica reboot era. But even there, what can you do about the visuals? Generate and repeat stock shots? Cut down on them? Or make the Blade Runner TV show the riskiest and most expensive SF venture in decades? That said, just as the original movie was an easy canvas for in-program marketing, the same environment would offer the same cost-defraying opportunities.

But personally, I wouldn't want any of the characters from the original movie revisited; recasting would be kind of sad, like Woody Allen trying to make the 'lobster' gag work a second time in Annie Hall. There must be more than a million stories in the naked city of Los Angeles 2019, even if the population is thinning out to the colonies, and that's really the only place to go in breathing new life into - God, I don't even want to say it in association with Blade Runner - with the 'franchise'.

Alcon is negotiating to secure the rights from producer-director Bud Yorkin, who will serve as producer on “Blade Runner” along with Kosove and Johnson. Cynthia Sikes Yorkin will co-produce. Frank Giustra and Tim Gamble, CEO’s of Thunderbird Films, will serve as executive producers.

Alcon’s franchise rights would be all-inclusive, but exclude rights to remake the original. The Company, however, may produce projects based on situations introduced in the original film. The project would be distributed domestically by Warner Bros. International rights are yet to be determined.

Among its many distinctions, “Blade Runner” has been singled out as one of the greatest movies of all time by countless polls and media outlets, and overwhelmingly as the greatest science-fiction film of all time by a majority of genre publications.

Released by Warner Bros. almost 30 years ago, "Blade Runner" was adapted by Hampton Fancher and David Peoples from Philip K. Dick's novel “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" and directed by Ridley Scott following his landmark “Alien.” The film was nominated for two Academy Awards (Best Visual Effects, and Best Art Direction).

“Blade Runner” was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." At 6 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 20, the Wayne County Arts Alliance will present the 1982 cult classic “Blade Runner” as part of its Director’s Cut Sunday Night Cinema series.

A science fiction thriller set in 2019 in a dystopian Los Angeles, the movie is directed by Ridley Scott and stars a young Harrison Ford. Its plot revolves around a renegade band of genetically engineered robots that has returned to earth and is being hunted down by special police agents known as “blade runners.”

The film is considered a leading example of the neo noir genre. Ford plays a particularly talented blade runner who races around the high-tech but decaying streets of L. A. battling replicants, corporate power, the consequences of genetic engineering, and the implications of his own humanity. The cast also includes Rutger Hauer, Sean Young and Daryl Hannah.

The Arts Alliance will air the definitive version of the movie, modified and with additional scenes chosen by Scott, who also directed “Alien,” “Thelma & Louise,” “Gladiator,” and “Hannibal.”

The “Director’s Cut” series, which runs through March 6, provides a selection of films by top directors from around the world. Showings are at the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce, 32 Commercial Street in Honesdale. A donation of $5.00 per person is suggested, to help support the activities of the Arts Alliance.

The film will be preceded with a short introduction and followed by a discussion.

"Soho and Piccadilly Circus’ streets are surreal places in the darkness of the night. The neon-lit roads are packed with every imaginable type of person," he went on in his mind. Then he smiled to himself, and said aloud, “I am standing in the middle of Blade Runner.”

His goal? To remake the science-fiction classic Blade Runner in under 60 seconds. And all to win the Done in Sixty Seconds film competition.

Done in Sixty Seconds is a short film competition with a deceptively simple premise: remake a hit Hollywood film in under a minute.

On December 4th, 2010 Untitled Theater Company #61 (UTC61) will host a benefit for the Free the Androids movement, a movement devoted to the plight of the enslaved androids on Mars. UTC61’s current production of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, a stage adaption of the Philip K Dick novel, which runs at 3-Legged Dog November 18th through December 12th was the inspiration for the fundraiser. Proceeds may also be used to help benefit the theater company.

When asked what first led him to consider the plight of artificial intelligence, Artistic Director Edward Einhorn said, “The more I dug into the material, the more aware I became of the plight of androids on Mars. We on Earth know only those androids who have escaped and gone rogue--driven rogue, I should say, by their enslavement. Mercer teaches us empathy for sheep, but what of electric sheep? What of electric humans? Empathy should extend to all.” When asked to comment on the rumor that Buster Friendly himself would leave his studio to appear at the event, Einhorn declined to respond but did note that “This will be a bounty hunter free zone. Androids can feel free to attend with an assurance of their own safety." All androids and sympathizers are welcome to come dressed for the occasion.

We need your help to complete Bladder Run - a homage to Blade Runner.

Rex Dickard is a retired bounty hunter living in a sprawling city of the future. He is brought into the headquarters of his old boss, Frank Brian, by a new bounty hunter, Guff. There Brian briefs Dickard about four deadly escaped androids, Junior; Nora; Pritt and Ray Botty.

Dickard agrees to take on one last case, and begins his investigation at the Lorell Corporation, where he meets Raquel a repressed nymphomaniac and top of the line android.

As his investigation proceeds, Dickard encounters the various androids and his quest ultimately leads him to a show down with Botty - the overweight psychotic whose wobbling blubber guts - squeezed into lycra cycling shorts - are the most horrifying aspect of the entire story!

The Movie

Bladder Run began life as an 8 page skit written in response to the so called "Director's Cut" released in the early 1990s. Writer/director Mark Hevingham was lucky enough to see a sneak preview of the original 1982 release and has been a fan ever since. Having expanded the plot to a full 90 minute feature - and pushing it through over 25 versions until he was happy with the plot - took over a decade and the movie began to take shape in 2008 when Mark assembled a cast and crew.

Setting out to make copies of classic Blade Runner props and costumes was only the beginning. The movie grew from a project that could be filmed over a weekend into a full production with lights, HD cameras and authentic locations loaned by local businesses. During the first half of 2010 scenes were filmed that replicated the Tyrell building (Holdall interviews Junior, Dickard meets Raquel), Taffey Lewis' bar, the fight scene in the street and so on.

Impressed by Lyons’ unique audio/visual outlook, the UK’s Latitude Festival invited Zan to remix Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner. This ever-evolving live reimagining of Scott’s classic sees lyons cut up scenes from the film-splicing in his own work in the process and replacing the soundtrack with his own score.

‘Zan Lyons vs Blade Runner’ has since been performed at: Berlin’s Berghain club; the Big Chill Festival; BFI Southbank; Tresor Berlin; Palma De Mallorca; LEV festival in Spain and the UK’s Leeds Festival with further performances planned for 2010/2011.

"In much of Kaiel’s work, the dividing line between dancers and spectators is shifting around, as you go along. The audience is not only looking, but is also being looked at."

Drawing from the sci-fi film classic Blade Runner, Erik Kaiel, together with his dancers plus students from the Toneelacademie Maastricht, throws up pivotal questions in his choreography of the same name.

Whom will we accept? And whom will we reject, and for what reason?

In 2009, Kaiel won the Dutch Dance Festival Award. He did so by using undiluted new styles of movement, such as break-dance and free running.

In Blade Runner, the performers turn the venue of an abandoned woodwork factory into one big opportunity for making daring moves. The spectators tag along after the dancers, as they make their journey of exploration around the vacated industrial building.

The piece will be performed on October 2, 2010 at 13.00 h and on October 3, 2010 at 12.00 h in the Timmerfabriek, Maastricht during the Nederlandse Dansdagen.

The intersection of stage and film — the future of entertainment?

‘Tis new to thee.

I've heard of the desire of some wanting Blade Runner to be adapted to a musical in other circles before, so it's nothing new. It’s been all talk, of course. And I do stress talk. (Maybe fantasizing is a better word. Or, perhaps even a little mental masturbation.)

In any event, the columnist goes on to write, “My heart would swell and burst if some intrepid director could bring "Blade Runner" to the stage.” He’s certainly passionate about his conviction with wanting this "science-fiction stage show".

I must say, personally, I think it would be an awesome endeavour. If done cleverly, it could very well be the next best thing. Of course, there will be those against such an idea, just as there are those against a re-make, sequel or prequel. But, this would be different.

Looking at some of the movies or television programs that have been adapted to musicals on Broadway might give you an idea of the possible success such a venture could have. Just to name a few:

The Addams Family

Is it the future of entertainment? For live entertainment, it certainly can be.

Douglas Trumbull, the special effects guru for Blade Runner, has finally launched his own website.

As he wrote on the welcome page, "We are under construction, feel free to look around while the dust is settling."

Mr. David Gill has studied the life and work of Philip K Dick for fifteen years, writing his Masters Thesis on Dick's novel Time Out of Joint. Aside from maintaining the Dick-centric Total Dick-Head blog, for the last five years, he has been teaching literature and writing at San Francisco State University and regularly assigns Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?. He has written about Philip K Dick for boingboing, io9.com, Article Magazine, and is currently part of a team working to edit Dick's Exegesis, a series of notes made by the author over the last eight years of his life, for publication.

In support of Cornell’s 2010 New Student Reading Project, Cornell University Library’s Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections offers an exhibition exploring the history of Philip K. Dick’s classic science fiction novel, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and the landmark film it inspired, Blade Runner. Featuring books and artifacts drawn from the Library’s rare book and manuscript collections, the exhibition traces the early history of the novel and its translation to screen and pop immortality.

The physical exhibition will be on view from August 19 through October 8 in the Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections, Carl A. Kroch Library, level 2B. Gallery hours are Monday — Friday 9:00 a.m. — 5:00 p.m. An online version of the exhibition will remain available via the following web site:

Secret Cinema's BLADE RUNNER Extravaganza!

On June 20, 2010, in London, Secret Cinema presented Blade Runner.

Secret Cinema is a monthly gathering of all that love challenging and groundbreaking cinema, screening mystery films in extraordinary locations in the London, England area.

The internet is changing the way we watch films. The secret cinema changes where you watch films.

Every month a new secret location, participants will receive an email the day before the screening revealing a clue to the film that is to be shown and details of the secret venue.

The films are chosen by the secret cinema folk - whose names will remain secret - and sometimes by those who participate in the secret audience, who will send in their secret votes.

The locations vary. Anything from derelict theatres, rooftops, parks and other secret spaces wouldn't be out of the question.

There could be surprise re-scores and special guests at these events.

So, what was in store for their showing of Blade Runner?

Secret Cinema presents Blade Runner, in partnership with Windows phone, at Canary Wharf, London. 15th - 20th June 2010.

Secret Cinema, in partnership with Windows Phone, presented Ridley Scott's Blade Runner. Taking place in the heart of Canary Wharf, over 7000 travellers chose Utopia Skyways for the chance to begin again...

UTOPIA SKYWAYS REPORT

Travellers were sent into transit on the Utopia Skyways Shuttle Coaches where their friendly hostesses gave them a tour of the beautiful architecture in the Tyrell Corporation's Canary Wharf district. . .

As the coaches approached their destination they were unexpectedly stormed by Blade Runner units following an uprising in the off-world colonies. With preliminary tests for suspicious activity inconclusive amongst the travellers the shuttles were redirected and dropped off in one of the city holding zones - the Sea container terminus - an area frequented by touts, vagabonds, dwarves and other undesirables.

From here they headed into Chinatown where a series of sprawling alleyways were filled with drifters, world citizens, market stalls... and Replicants. Other globe-trotters headed into the FUTURE SHORTS CINEMA where amazing short films were on show and the Neon Love Bar where the infamous Fuel Girls tempted weary travellers away...

Taffey Lewis' Club was in full swing with HANNAH HOLLAND (off-world colonies) playing future beats. In the transit yard a full blown street party erupted when a renegade group of cyberpunks took over.

Deckard chased Zhora through the crowds in Taffey's during a set from the futuristic sounds of the incredible CHROME HOOF, narrowly missing capturing her and into the Bradbury Building where J F sebastian and his toys and projected pets woke up to the arriving visitors...

With all displaced travellers amassed Captain Bryant then performed a Replicant test on the 850 strong audience using the Voight Kampf procedure administered by Windows Phone. The results can be found here, please let us know if you know of any of the persons featured.

Further emotive tests then continued when Future Shorts presented Chris Cunningham's seminal short film for Björk's 'All is full of Love'. Watch it here.

Then the final test: BLADE RUNNER - THE FINAL CUT.

On the anniversary of the first public showing of Blade Runner, I present to you the new and improved OFF-WORLD NEWS!

The Off-world News was originally an email newsletter. When I took over the role, I created the Yahoo! Group. Now, this has transitioned to the blogosphere. This format is great in that it presents the photos and videos on the blog, without having to click on the links. And it is archived here for as long as there's Blogger.
