  • Vangelis trades synthesizers for piano and finds life after the film score Vangelis was interviewed by the Los Angeles Times for the release of his album “Nocturne,” a departure from the bank of synthesizers that normally surrounds the composer. It’s a collection of new works for mostly solo piano, with a little synthy accompaniment here and there. You can read the article HERE.

Today is Vangelis's birthday!
Please join us in wishing him a very Happy Birthday!

OFF-WORLD NEWS DIGEST | VOL. IX, No. 5

Welcome to another edition of the OFF-WORLD NEWS Digest.

In the news ...

  • Return to the original world of Blade Runner 2019.

    • Welcome to the rain-soaked world of Los Angeles 2019 - a dystopic world of Replicants, Spinners, and hardboiled future noir. There's a new Blade Runner in town, and she's out for blood. Replicant blood.
As we learned back in February when this comic series was announced, one of the featured characters is a female Blade Runner named Ash. Looks as though she's taking the lead in Volume 1.
Written by Blade Runner 2049's Michael Green and Matt Johnson with illustrations from Andres Guinaldo, Blade Runner 2019 will follow a Blade Runner named Ash through the city of Los Angeles where the original movie was set. The first issue’s cover, illustrated by Stanley “Artgerm” Lau, depicts Ash wielding her gun as she faces off what looks to be Rachael, the experimental Nexus-7 replicant who goes on to play a significant role in the franchise’s future.
Available in paperback, November 19, 2019 HERE.

      • You Can Now Own Drew Struzan's Blade Runner Poster That Was Nearly 40 Years in the Making | Drew Struzan is the name of names when it comes to movie posters and has been for decades. So, in the early ’80s, when he was asked to come up with concepts for a little Ridley Scott movie called Blade Runner, it certainly made sense.
In the end, though, Struzan’s work wasn’t chosen for the film’s release. The studio instead went with John Alvin’s poster (which, to be fair, is pretty amazing too). Twenty years passed, and then Struzan was again approached by Scott, asking if that original work could be used for a re-release. Struzan agreed, but wanted to update it. The result ended up on the cover of the 2007 release of The Final Cut.
Now, over a decade after that and almost four decades since it was first conceived, you can finally own a limited edition print of Struzan’s work for Blade Runner. More HERE.
