Welcome to another edition of the OFF-WORLD NEWS Digest.
In the news ...
-- Blade Runner interest has been going through another resurgence in recent months – as shown through the increase of chatter in forums, Blade Runner Facebook fan pages, and Twitter; and through the increase of showings in theatres across the globe. And through articles, art, photography, and videos. It's easy for some to slip through the cracks at first. But they soon find their way to the masses.
-- It has been announced back in late February that director Denis Villeneuve is in negotiations to direct Harrison Ford in the “Blade Runner” sequel for Alcon Entertainment. Written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, the “Blade Runner” sequel will take place several decades after the 1982 original. Harrison Ford will reprise his role as Rick Deckard in the film.
Ridley Scott will exec produce the sci-fi thriller. Producers are Bud and Cynthia Sikes Yorkin and Alcon’s Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson.
“We are honored that Harrison is joining us on this journey with Denis Villeneuve, who is a singular talent, as we experienced personally on ‘Prisoners,'” Kosove and Johnson said in a joint statement. “Hampton and Michael, with Ridley Scott, have crafted a uniquely potent and faithful sequel to one of the most universally celebrated films of all time, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with this amazing, creative team.” [Variety]

-- Fellow Blade Runner fan and collector, Geoff Hutchins, passed away on January 8th 2014. Geoff was of course the owner of many, many Blade Runner props and collectables. Geoff is survived by his wife Tracy, a son, and a daughter, and two grandchildren.
I did not know Geoff personally. We chatted a few times here and at the BladeZone's Off-world Forums.
Geoff's son, Jamie, had this to say on BladeZone's Facebook page, in regards to the announcment on the news of his father's passing and the comments posted in reply.
"Thank you so much for doing this! I am immensely proud of my dad and I plan to continue displaying his collection for all to see. Thanks again."
My thoughts are with his family and friends.
